There are four different ways to consume weed. Each method provides a different experience as well as effect. You need to understand how the various methods of consumption have different onset, duration effects as well as strength. If you want to have an anxiety-free high knowing how your consumption method works are crucial.
Onset: how long it takes effect to become noticeable
Duration: how long the effects will last
First method: Inhalation
Inhalation is smoking from a bong, joint, or pipe. It can also be vaporized, which is a healthier alternative to smoking. Portable vaporizers are super useful for going out and wanting to consume cannabis. They produce minimal odor, unlike the Super Lemon Haze that I just smoked and is currently sticking to the walls of my garage.
Onset: Within seconds of inhalation – 10 mins
Duration: 60 – 120 mins
When you smoke cannabis, the gas enters the lungs and is absorbed by the bloodstream and circulates the body, causing a fast onset.
Second method: Oral Consumption
Oral consumption is referred to as edibles, ahh the classic pot brownie. Oral use is not like inhalation, and you must be careful when consuming. Because of the onset effects, some people get annoyed with waiting and will eat more and then the high hits, and when that second round of edibles kick in OOO, THEY ARE IN TROUBLE. My best advice is to sleep it off, I have learned that with my anxiety that you can’t have a panic attack if you are sleeping, and if you are about to have a weed freak out, breathe and do your best to sleep it off. And remember no hangover tomorrow 🙂
Onset: 45 – 120 mins
Duration: 1 – 8 hours
When eating food injected with cannabis, the cannabinoids and THC are metabolized. THC metabolizes into 11-hydroxy-THC, which is more effective at crossing the blood/brain barrier to enter the brain and bind to the CB1 receptors.
I once tried to make edibles, but while decrapoxylizaing the weed, I am pretty sure I burnt all the THC, and my shitty rice Krispies got no one high. So if anyone can teach your girl how to cook edibles, PLEASE hit my line. My insomnia is begging.
Third method: Sublingual Absorption
Tinctures are liquid cannabis extract that you consume by placing under your tongue.
Onset: 10 – 20 mins
Duration: 60 – 160 mins
I recently made my grandma start taking a full-spectrum CBD tincture. Since she’s getting older, she has a long list of problems and alignments, and CBD can help relieve some of her symptoms. I believe CBD should be taken as a vitamin every day; it’s a supplement with the power to establish and maintain good health.
Fourth method: Topical
No topicals can not get you high, but they can alleviate a handful of symptoms. I have had knee surgeries in my twenty years of life, and my knee hates me for it. Every time I work out my knee throbs and don’t even get me started on a night out in heels. My solution: CBD lotion.
Onset: 5 – 120 mins
Duration: can last up to 12 hours
